Abstract:
This project deals with the translation and subtitles of the Spanish Tv Series “Velvet” into English. The objective is to achieve an accurate and idiomatic translation and to put the subtitles following the standardized parameters. This project shows some of the translation and subtitling problems found in the episode and how they were resolved. The episode chosen deals with funny expressions, jokes, typical Spanish expressions, colloquial vocabulary, cultural elements, etc. The translation strategy used is a foreignizing strategy, keeping some linguistic and cultural elements of the source text when translating. The tools used were the episode of the TV Series and the subtitling tool Aegisub.
