    Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objective: to determine nursing students’ adherence to Mediterranean diet in a Spanish university. Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was realized in two university Campuses with nursing students. A questionnaire was sent by electronic mail, which contained socio-demographic variables and KidMed test. Nursing students from 1st and 4th degree were included through a non-probabilistic sampling by convenience. A descriptive and bivariate analysis was done with 2, Fisher’s test and Kruskal-Wallis. A signification of p<0.05 was assumed. Results: 313 valid questionnaires were obtained (55.9% response rate). The sample was formed by 277 women (88.5%) and 36 men (11.5%). The 62% studied in Campus 2 and the 38% were formed in Campus 1. The average age was 21.0 (20.0-24.0). The average KidMed test punctuation was 7.0 (5.0-8.0), meaning a median adherence. Different consumption frequencies were observed depending on gender, university campus, place of residence during school year, state of nutrition’s subject and adhesion’s degree to this food pattern. Conclusions: nursing students presented a median adherence, meaning the necessity of changes into their food pattern. It is needed interventions focused into this group, for example, to redesign nutrition subject. Keywords: Mediterranean diet, nursing students, feeding behaviour.
