    Abstract:
There is too much controversy in the literature to affirm that preoperative weight loss is related to the results of bariatric surgery as a weight loss long term. The aim of our study is to compare whether performing two types of diets help improve: the analytical parameters and weight evolution of patients. It is a prospective randomized study which 60 patients eligible for bariatric surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastro Bypass Roux-Y) are involved. You will be assigned a pre-surgical diet type; VLCD (intake 800kcal / day, 4 beaten for 21 days) or mixed diet (1200kcal intake /day, and two shakes food for 21 days). Anthropometric data, three days food records and biochemical measurements were collected. Weekly visits are performed before surgery and have a dietician, analytical and anthropometric follow-up at 3, 6.9 and 12 months. So far they have been recruited 33 patients, of which a 9SE indicates them Vertical Gastrectomy (4 patients performed VLCD and 5 patients perform mixed diet) and 24 Gastro Bypass Roux-Y (13 made VLCD and 5 perform mixed diet) . As for the loss of preoperative weight, significant differences between groups last 21 days of dietary treatment were observed; lost points BMI (p> 0.05), the percentage of weight loss (% TWL) (p> 0.05) and the total weight lost (kg) in the third week of dietary treatment. It is concluded that both diets are two effective treatments in preoperative weight loss in bariatric surgery, both improving glycemic and lipid profile. However, patients who perform a VLCD obtain better results in terms of improved metabolic profile and protein status, as well as greater weight reduction compared to the mixed diet, in the pre-surgery period.
