Title in different languages: Extraction of proteins from Buffalo with commercial ionic liquids in aqueous two-phase systems
Abstract: This work studied the extraction of proteins from Buffalo, the larvae form of Alphitobius diaperinus with a protein content of 68.10%, in aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) constructed using commercial ionic liquids (ILs) and a salt solution. Different extraction aspects were evaluated, but protein recovery was below 10% in all cases because of the poor solubilisation of the insect powder. This contrasted with the recoveries obtained with bovine serum albumin (BSA), which were above 60%. The dialysis of the upper phases of ATPS for protein recovery was inefficient, since there were protein losses and the IL was not completely removed.
