    Abstract:
Polyphenols are plant compounds that are divided into flavonoids, phenolic acids, lignanos and stybenos, with different chemical structures and bioavailability. They are believed to reduce the risk of disease by improving antioxidant enzymes and mitigating inflammation. Breast cancer (CM), the most common in women, is on the rise, especially in high-income countries. Epidemiological studies suggest that diets rich in (polyn)phenols, such as the Mediterranean, are associated with a lower risk of CM. This study, based on the EPIC cohort with 257,961 European women, found no significant association between the intake of (poly)phenols and the risk of CM or its subtypes.
