Fostering Oral Proficiency in Secondary English Education: Implementing Communicative Methodologies for Improved Learning

    Abstract:
    This study investigates a new methodology focused on oral activities to improve English oral skills in secondary students. Conducted over three weeks with twenty-four second-grade students from a Catalan school, it includes nine one-hour sessions with interactive oral tasks and audiovisual materials. Group projects and recorded role-plays in interview scenarios assess fluency, expression, and collaboration. Results show significant improvements in oral proficiency, participation, and content understanding, despite challenges for students with special needs. The study highlights the importance of mediation activities, Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), and audiovisual tools in enhancing oral skills, offering valuable insights for secondary English education.
