Title in different languages: Pitfalls in the Agora: An Analysis of the Fallacies Present in Vox’s Parliamentary Discourses in the Context of the Controversial Situation of June 24, 2022
Abstract: Human beings are inherently political entities, and argumentation constitutes a fundamental pillar in the development of societies. The capacity to argue effectively is essential for conflict resolution and decision-making in political contexts. Argumentation assumes particular significance in situations of controversy, as these justify the emergence of diverse narratives and perspectives, thereby enriching public debate. However, during the argumentation process, traps may arise that hinder the development of critical discussion. One such mechanism is the fallacy, which weakens the debate by introducing invalid arguments. On June 24, 2022, at the Melilla border, a controversial situation occurred that generated significant discussion in the Congreso de los Diputados. This incident underscored the substantial differences in the narratives and approaches of various political parties. A notable participant in the discussion was the political party Vox. In this context, the ability to identify and deconstruct fallacies becomes crucial for maintaining the integrity of parliamentary debate.
