Effect of resveratrol on endothelial function: a systematic review

Abstract:
Resveratrol (RSV) is a polyphenol with beneficial effects on endothelial function, a key factor in preventing cardiovascular diseases and complications associated with type 2 diabetes. This systematic review (2013–2024) analyzed 566 studies involving animal, cellular, and human models, reporting improvements in nitric oxide production, reduced oxidative stress, modulation of NF-κB, and activation of SIRT1. These effects promote vasodilation and arterial elasticity. However, variability in dosage, duration, and bioavailability limits its clinical application, highlighting the need for larger, long-term studies to define its therapeutic use.
