Title in different languages: Legal Translation
Abstract: This paper is a simulation of a translation assignment from English to Spanish. The assignment is double since two different clients have required different translations and, consequently, the documents are submitted in duplicate. This paper aims to analyze the translation process of five legal texts from English into Spanish, which belong to the Irish and English legal system. In particular, this paper aims to define the translation problems that have arisen during the communication process with the clients and during the translation process. Some possible solutions for these translation problems are proposed. In addition, this paper aims to determine whether I have acquired the skills learnt during the master’s degree in professional translation to be able to carry out a real translation assignment. The analysis of this translation assignment is divided into two parts: the communication process with the clients and the translation problems and solutions. On the one hand, there will be a discussion on the communication process with the clients, the problems that I had with them and some proposals will be exposed. On the other hand, there will be an analysis of the translation process of five legal texts from English into Spanish. In this analysis, there will be an explanation of some translation problems and some possible solutions. Some of these texts were translated with WFA (Word Fast Anywhere) and a translation memory in Excel format was used.
